Gathering Shards

In “Gathering Shards,” shards are defined as fragmented pieces of broken valuables such as ceramics or glass, typically having sharp edges. They represent a part of a whole and when the shards are restored to its whole, its sharp edges become beautiful traces of history and story; and its once perceived value would also be evolved into a different form, one of fortitude and sentiment.

The shards can thus be regarded as an important memory or experience. Shards have an intrinsic characteristic to refract light, they form a kaleidoscope of colors, a fusion of experience that could serve as a medium for introspection and extrospection.

The visual distortion created by the bend of a light ray passing through glass or water during refraction also takes on the metaphor for alternative perspectives and that sometimes a greater truth requires the bending of our “light ray” to reveal a more impartial viewpoint.
